( Figures 13, 13a, 13b, 13c, 13d, 13e, 13f View FIGURES 13 – 13 , 41e View FIGURES 41 , 72 View FIGURES 60 – 98 , 111 View FIGURES 99 – 137 )
Type locality. Sicily, Palermo, Roccapalumba ( Fig. 154).
Diagnosis. A small-size species (3.40–3.70 mm) belonging to the adrianae group with short sub-parallel elytra (length/width ratio: 1.60–1.63) and body shape sub-cylindrical. Within the species group, it is recognisable by elytral declivity with catenulate, spatulate, flattened setae (0°–15°), pronotum transverse (length: 0.73–0.80 mm, width: 0.85–0.90 mm) with ratio 0.86–0.89 and mesorostrum with spatulate setae. Elytra flat dorsally (length: 2.20–2.40 mm, width: 1.35–1.50 mm, ratio 1.60–1.63), clothed by imbricate brown-silvery scales and short silvery setae catenulate, spatulate.
Type series. Holotype female with the following labels: [transparent label] genitalia in DHMF // [white, printed] ♀ // [white, printed] “I, Sic.[ilia], PA [Palermo], Rocca Palumba, 500 m, olivo, 19. III. [20] ‘08” // [white, printed] “legg . Baviera & Rando, Bellò & Chemello ” // [green, printed] “ Collezione Cesare Bellò ” // [red, printed] “ Dodomeira siderea sp. n., Holotype, det. Bellò 2016 ” ( CBE) .
Paratypes. 4 females: “I, Sic.[ilia], PA [Palermo], Rocca Palumba, 500 m, olivo, 19. III. [20] ‘08, legg. Baviera & Rando , Bellò & Chemello ” ( CBE, CBA) ; 1 female: “I, Sicilia, Palermo, Rocca Palumba, 500 m, vaglio lettiera Olea , 15.IV.2010, PARP 1.1 , legg. Bellò & Chemello , Baviera ” ( CBE). Types are six (all females).
Holotype. Female. Total length: 3.70 mm. Body shape slender and subcylindrical. Dorsal vestiture with imbricate, brownish-silvery scales with metallic sheen; short, flattened, spatulate setae on pronotum as on elytra (angle with elytral surface 0°–15°).
Rostrum covered by silvery-brown scales, transverse (length/width ratio 0.72), sub-parallel to the sides. Pterygia obvious. Epistome absent. Mesorostrum slightly concave, anteriorly with about twelve thin, curved semierect setae. Vertex convex (vertex width / mesorostrum width: ratio 1.84) with spatulate/clavate and recumbent or raised setae. Interocular space with inconspicuous fovea. Lateral and spherical eyes not protruding from outline of head. Antenna quite robust and quite short with long, flattened, silvery, widened setae. Antenna with ratio 0.75 (scape length: 0.75 mm, funicle length: 1.00 mm). Scape clubbed, slightly more robust than funicle, curved at the first third. Funicle segments including club, relative lengths as follows: 11.4.5.3.3.3.3.15; all segments with clavate-widened setae; segments 4–7 pearl-shaped. Club at least twice wider than funicle, fusiform with between first and second segment visible.
Pronotum clothed with silvery-brown scales, transverse (length: 0.80 mm, width: 0.90 mm, ratio: 0.89), slightly sub-hexagonal, sinuate at the sides, wider in the middle with spatulatee, golden silvery flattened setae. Punctation usually covered by scales. Scutellum inconspicuous.
Elytra flat dorsally, covered by silvery-brown scales, sub-parallel with flat suture (length: 2.40 mm, width: 1.50 mm, ratio: 1.60), wider at the middle. Humeri short and rounded. Elytral declivity with catenulate, spatulate, flattened setae (0°–15°). Punctation of striae, shallow, catenulate and impressed. Interstriae flat, with spatulate, short, golden silvery, flattened or recumbent setae.
Legs short and robust covered by silvery-brown scales and with short, clavate, silvery-golden setae. Femora clubbed. Protibia with three acute spines on inner edge with mucro little evident on inner apical angle. Protibia not sinuous on inner edge, metatibia and mesotibia straight in side view.
Tarsal segment 1 short, conical; segment 2 short and transverse; segment 3 shallowly bilobed; all segments with thin golden setae. Onychium curved, robust and quite short.
Female genitalia. See Figures: spermatheca ( Fig. 72 View FIGURES 60 – 98 ), sternite VIII ( Fig. 111 View FIGURES 99 – 137 ). Genitalia were examined in two specimens.
Paratype variability. All females. Were observed variability in size and setae (more or less clavate/ spatulate and more or less inclined).
Distribution. See Fig. 139. Italian endemic. Known only near type locality Rocca Palumba.
Etymology. Named from Latin word “ siderea ” (starry) because is known Roccapalumba for the singular appellation of “country of stars”.
Ecology and Phenology. Collected by Berlese and Winkler extractors from soil obtained sifting the leaf litter on clay soil, of an olive grove in spring, at 500–600 meters.
Collections in the other seasons gave negative results.
Main soil type. Vertic-Cambisol (European Soil Data Centre; Panagos et al. 2012).
Reproduction. Probably parthenogenetic. Species known from six females.
Chorological relationships. Sympatric with Dolichomeira sp., genus usually wintry, at Rocca Palumba.
