Type locality. Sicily, Ragusa, Licodia Eubea, Lago Dirillo ( Fig. 149 View FIGURE 149 ).

Diagnosis. A medium-size species (3.60–4.10 mm) belonging to the adrianae group with short sub-parallel elytra (length: 2.30–2.70 mm, width: 1.50–1.70 mm, ratio: 1.61–1.65) and body shape sub-cylindrical. Within the species group, it is recognisable by mesorostrum with clavate setae, head with vertex/mesorostrum ratio 2.00, pronotum very transverse (length: 0.75–0.85 mm, width: 0.90– 0.50 mm, ratio 0.83–0.90) and elytral declivity with setae quite raised (30°–35°). Elytra slightly convex dorsally, clothed by imbricate brownish-silvery scales and short silvery-golden setae clavate.

Type series. Holotype female with the following labels: [transparent label] genitalia in DHMF // [white, printed] ♀ // [white, printed] “I, Sicilia, RG [Ragusa], Licodia Eubea, Lago Dirillo, 330m, sub Olea , N 38°07.806’ E 014°41.307’, 18. Holotype. Female. Total length: 3.90 mm. Body shape slender and subcylindrical. Dorsal vestiture with imbricate brownish-silvery scales with metallic sheen. Short, quite raised, clavate setae on pronotum as on elytra (angle with elytral surface 30°–35°).

Rostrum covered by brownish-silvery scales, transverse (length/width ratio 0.66), sub-parallel to the sides. Pterygia inconspicuous. Epistome absent. Mesorostrum concave, anteriorly with about ten thin, curved, semi-erect setae. Vertex wide and convex (vertex width / mesorostrum width: ratio 2.00) with clavate and erect setae. Interocular space with very small fovea. Lateral and spherical eyes protruding from outline of head. Antenna robust and quite short with long, recumbent, golden, widened setae. Antenna with ratio 0.78 (scape length: 0.85 mm, funicle length: 1.10 mm). Scape clubbed, slightly more robust than funicle, curved at the middle. Funicle segments including club, length as follows: 12.6.5.4.4.4.4.16; segments 1–5 with clavate setae; segments 4–7 pearl-shaped. Club at least twice wider than funicle, fusiform with suture between first and second segment visible.

Pronotum clothed with imbricate golden silvery scales, transverse (length: 0.85 mm, width: 0.95 mm, ratio: 0.90), slightly sub-hexagonal, sinuate at the sides, wider in the middle with clavate, golden silvery recumbent setae. Punctation usually covered by scales. Scutellum small and inconspicuous.

Elytra convex, covered by golden silvery scales, sub-cylindrical with suture quite flat (length: 2.50 mm, width: 1.55 mm, ratio: 1.61), wider at the middle. Humeri short and rounded. Elytral declivity with setae quite raised (30°–35°). Punctation of striae, shallow, catenulate and slightly impressed. Interstriae flat, with clavate, long, golden silvery, raised setae.

Legs short and robust, covered by silvery-golden scales and rather short, clavate, silvery-golden setae. Femora clubbed. Protibia with three acute spines on inner edge, with evident mucro on inner apical angle. Protibia not sinuous on inner edge, metatibia and mesotibia straight in side view.

Tarsal segment 1 short, conical; segment 2 short and transverse; segment 3 shallowly bilobed; all segments with thin golden setae. Onychium curved, robust and quite short.

Female genitalia. See Figures: spermatheca ( Fig. 67 View FIGURES 60 – 98 ), sternite VIII ( Fig. 106 View FIGURES 99 – 137 ). Genitalia were examined in nine specimens.

Paratype variability. Paratypes (all females) are similar to the holotype but differs for antenna more slender.

Distribution. See Fig. 139. Italian endemic. Known in Licodia Eubea near Dirillo Lake.

Etymology. Named from Iblei Mountains, a very interesting naturalistic area in the southern Sicily.

Ecology and Phenology. Collected by Berlese and Winkler extractors from soil obtained sifting the leaf litter on clay soil, of an olive grove in March and December, at 300–400 meters.

Main soil type. Eutric-Cambisol (European Soil Data Centre; Panagos et al. 2012).

Reproduction. Probably parthenogenetic. Species known only from thirty-two females.
