( Figures 4, 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 4e, 4f View FIGURES 4 – 4 , 40d View FIGURES 40 , 63 View FIGURES 60 – 98 , 102 View FIGURES 99 – 137 )

Type locality. Sicily, Catania, Caltagirone ( Fig.145).

Diagnosis. A medium-size species (3.50–4.00 mm) belonging to the adrianae group with short sub-parallel elytra (length: 2.30–2.70, width: 1.40–1.65, ratio: 1.61–1.64) and body shape sub-cylindrical. Within the species group, it is recognisable by rostrum with subparallel sides and mesorostrum with spatulate setae. Pronotum transverse (length: 0.80–0.95 mm, width: 0.90–1.00 mm, ratio 0.85–0.95). Elytra slender, slightly convex dorsally clothed by imbricate brownish-golden scales and with short golden setae clavate or spatulate, recumbent (angle with elytral surface 15°–20°).

Type series. Holotype female with the following labels: [transparent label] genitalia in DHMF // [white, printed] ♀ // [white, printed] “I, Sic.[ilia], CT [Catania], Caltagirone, s.s. 124, vaglio sotto Olea , 15.IV. 2010 ” // [white, printed] “ 37°16.31’ N 014°27.55’E legg. Baviera C. & Bellò C.” // [white, printed] “ ENCA 1.1” // [green, printed] “Collezione Cesare Bellò” // [red, printed] “ Dodomeira calatina sp. n., Holotype, det. Bellò 2016 ” ( CBE).

Paratypes. 6 females: “I, Sic.[ilia], CT [Catania], Caltagirone, s.s. 124, vaglio sotto Olea , 15.IV. 2010 // 37°16.31’N 014°27.55’E legg. Baviera C. & Bellò C.” (CBE, CBA); 1 female: “I, Sic.[ilia], CT [Catania], Caltagirone (s.s. 124), Olea , 450 m, 18.IV. [2010] // N 37°16.623’ E 014°27.925’ legg. Baviera & Bellò” (CBE); 6 females: “I, Sic.[ilia], CT [Catania], Caltagirone, s.s. 124, 450 m, v.[aglio] Olea , 30.III. 2 0 12 // 37°16.516’ E 014°27.962’ legg. Bellò & Chemello” (CBE); 12 females: “I, Sicilia, Catania, Caltagirone, S.S. 124, 440m, vaglio Olea , 4.IV.2014 leg. Baviera // 37°16.31’N 014°27.55’E leg. Baviera” (CBE, CBA, GOS, MNSG).

Holotype. Female. Total length: 3.80 mm. Body shape slender and subcylindrical. Dorsal vestiture with imbricate brownish, silvery-golden scales with metallic sheen. Short, recumbent, spatulate or clavate setae on pronotum as on elytra (angle with elytral surface 15°–20°).

Rostrum covered by brownish-silvery scales, transverse (length/width ratio 0.70), subparallel to the sides. Pterygia inconspicuous. Epistome absent. Mesorostrum superiorly slightly concave, anteriorly with about ten thin, curved, semi-erect setae. Vertex convex (vertex width / mesorostrum width: ratio 1.80) with clavate and semi-erect setae. Interocular space with scarcely visible fovea. Lateral and spherical eyes scarcely protruding from outline of head.

Antenna quite robust and quite short with long, raised, golden, widened setae. Antenna with ratio 0.73 (scape length: 0.80 mm, funicle length: 1.10 mm). Scape clubbed slightly more robust than funicle, curved at the middle and progressively thickening towards apex. Funicle segments including club, relative lengths as follows: 12.6.4.4.4.4.4.16; segments 1–4 with clavate setae; segments 4–7 pearl-shaped. Club at least twice wider than funicle, fusiform, compact but with suture between first and second segment clearly visible.

Pronotum clothed with golden scales, very transverse (length: 0.85 mm, width: 1.00 mm, ratio: 0.85), slightly sub-hexagonal shaped, sinuate at the sides, wider in the middle and with clavate, golden recumbent setae. Punctation on disc covered by scales. Scutellum small and inconspicuous.

Elytra convex, covered by golden brownish silvery scales, sub-cylindrical with flat suture (length: 2.50 mm, width: 1.55 mm, ratio: 1.61), wider at the middle. Humeri rounded. Elytral declivity with short, golden, clavatespatulate, recumbent setae (15°–20°).

Punctation of striae, shallow, catenulate and slightly impressed. Interstriae feebly convex, flat, with clavate or spatulate, golden recumbent setae (15°–20°).

Legs short and robust clothed by silvery-golden scales and rather short, elongate-clavate silvery-golden setae. Femora little clubbed. Protibia with two-three acute spines on inner edge, with evident mucro on inner apical angle. Protibia quite sinuous on inner edge, metatibia and mesotibia straight in side view.

Tarsal segment 1 short, conical; segment 2 short and transverse; segment 3 shallowly bilobed; all segments with thin golden setae. Onychium curved, quite robust and quite short.

Female genitalia. See Figures: spermatheca ( Fig. 63 View FIGURES 60 – 98 ), sternite VIII ( Fig. 102 View FIGURES 99 – 137 ).

Genitalia were examined in seven specimens.

Paratype variability. Paratypes (all females) are similar to the holotype but differ in size.

Distribution. See Fig. 139. Italian endemic. Known around Caltagirone type locality at 400–450 meters.

Etymology. Named from feminine “Calatini”, the name of Caltagirone people.

Ecology and Phenology. Collected by Berlese and Winkler extractors from soil obtained sifting the leaf litter on clay soil, of an olive grove in spring, at 400–500 meters.

Collections summer months gave negative results suggesting that the Dodomeira alta are absent during this time.

Main soil type. Cambisol (European Soil Data Centre; Panagos et al. 2012).

Reproduction. Probably parthenogenetic. Species known from twenty-six females.

Chorological relationships. Sympatric with Dolichomeira sp., genus usually wintry, at Caltagirone.
