Diplommatina heteroglypha van Benthem Jutting, 1948 View in CoL

( Figs 10 View FIGURES 10 – 14 , 23 View FIGURES 23 – 25 ; Table 1)

Diplommatina heteroglypha Van Benthem Jutting 1948: 600 View in CoL , fig. 56 (Ongop-Ongop, ldjen Highland, EaSt JaVa, 1850 m).

Diagnosis. Diplommatina heteroglypha is characterized by a closely ribbed, small (shell height 3.2–3.45 mm), sinistral shell with a convex last whorl without a spiral depression, with a broadly expanded peristome and with a spiral palatal fold close to the suture ventrolaterally right inside the last whorl.

Shell ( Fig. 23 View FIGURES 23 – 25 ; Table 1). Sinistral; ovoid with conical early whorls and a narrowed last whorl; with 5.25–5.5 whorls separated by a deep suture; protoconch smooth; teleoconch with oblique ribs (approximately 69–80 ribs on the penultimate whorl; fewer on the last whorl); locally with spiral striae between the ribs; whitish or corneous; subtranslucent; last whorl rounded, with a ventral constriction; aperture subangular, angular at the transition from columellar to basal side; upper insertion of the peristome distinctly ascending towards aperture; insertions of the peristome connected by a weak or strong callus; peristome broadly expanded, thickened, doubled; aperture with a distinct columellar lamella; with a parietal lamella and a short spiral palatal fold close to the suture ventrolaterally right inside the last whorl, and with a radial palatal fold ventrally; umbilicus closed; operculum thin, corneous, circular, paucispiral. Shell height 3.2–3.45 mm, shell diameter 1.75–1.95 mm.

Remarks. The vial that is labelled holotype of D. heteroglypha includes 29 specimens. All these specimens are smaller than the measurement given by van Benthem Jutting (1948) for the holotype. Thus, the holotype is missing or at least not identifiable among the other types.

Habitat. In leaf litter in forests on volcanic soils at 1600–1850 m a.s.l.

Type material. Indonesia, Java, East Java: Banyuwangi, Mt. Ijen, Merapi Ungup-ungup , 1850 m a.s.l., 8°05'S 114°14'E (paratypes of D. heteroglypha ZMA 135947 View Materials /29). GoogleMaps

Other material. Indonesia, Java, East Java: Banyuwangi, Ijen Crater , 1600–1700 m a.s.l., 8°05'S 114°14'E (van Benthem Jutting 1948). GoogleMaps

Distribution ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 10 – 14 ). Diplommatina heteroglypha is endemic to East Java, where it has been found so far only on Mt. Ijen.
