Diplommatina calcarata Möllendorff, 1897 View in CoL
( Figs 14 View FIGURES 10 – 14 , 31 View FIGURES 29 – 32 ; Table 1)
Diplommatina calcarata Möllendorff, 1897: 94 (JaVa) View in CoL . Van Benthem Jutting 1948: 596, fig. 53. Heryanto 2009: 332. Heryanto 2011: 47, figS.
Diplommatina (Sinica) calcarata View in CoL — Kobelt 1902: 458. Zilch 1953: 27, pl. 13 fig. 189.
Diagnosis. Diplommatina calcarata is characterized by the distinct narrowing of the last 1.5 whorls, distinct extensions of the peristome, a prominent columellar lamella, widely spaced ribs and a strongly ascending last whorl.
Shell ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 29 – 32 ; Table 1). Dextral; spindle-shaped with conical early whorls and a much narrowed last whorl; with 5.5–6.75 whorls separated by a deep suture; protoconch smooth; teleoconch with widely spaced ribs (15–28 on the penultimate whorl; approximately the same number on the last whorl); without discernible spiral striae between the ribs; whitish; subtranslucent; last whorl rounded, with a distinct lateral right constriction; aperture subangular, angular at the transition from columellar to basal side; upper insertion of the peristome distinctly ascending towards aperture; insertions of the peristome connected by a detached callus; peristome distinctly expanded, with 2–4 blunt processes, of which the upper palatal and the columellar-basal are strongest, thickened, doubled; aperture with prominent columellar lamella, forming a high lamella inside the last whorl; with a long parietal lamella laterally left to laterally right inside the last whorl; inside the last whorl ventrally with a short spiral palatal fold above the middle of the whorl and with a radial palatal fold laterally right; umbilicus closed; operculum thin, corneous, circular, paucispiral. Shell height 2.10–2.65 mm, shell diameter 1.3–1.7 mm.
Remarks. Diplommatina calcarata differs from D. tetragonostoma in the smaller, more widely ribbed shell and the last whorl that ascends strongly towards the aperture.
Habitat. In leaf litter, rocks and deadwood in forests on calcareous and volcanic soils at 80–1700 m a.s.l.
Type material. Indonesia, Java (lectotype of D. calcarata [designated by Zilch 1953] SMF 105207; paralectotypes of D. calcarata SMF 105208/2).

Distribution ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 10 – 14 ). Diplommatina calcarata is probably endemic to Java. A re-examination of specimens recorded as D. calcarata from Borneo ( Vermeulen 1993) proved that they belong to a separate species. A record from Sumatra (Heryanto 2013) also needs to be checked.
