Arctodiamesa Makarchenko (1983) View in CoL
Makarchenko (1983) established this genus to include one of several Diamesa larval types that didn’t fit well in the standard characters used to define the genus. Arctodiamesa appendiculata (Lundström, 1915) larvae have been collected in Alaska by Watson et al. (1966) and Tilley (1978), who listed it as Diamesa Alaska sp. 1. The larvae and adults have been collected in or around large-size creeks to medium-sized rivers. These habitats have braided channels flowing through broad, flat terrain surrounded on both sides by mountains in the northern half of Alaska. Makarchenko (2005) found larvae of Arctodiamesa marinae on small and medium-sized stones covered with green algae in a river of the Russian Far East, which is likely the habitat for other species in this genus.
