Ecnomina scutica -group
The scutica -group of four species- scutica , lamingtonensis , specensis and incisura , is separated from other Ecnomina species primarily by the nygma being present on forewing fork 2; a feature they share with most species of the genus Daternomina . Other common but not exclusive characters of the group are superior appendages generally atypical for the genus, with the superior appendages reduced or displaced ventrally.
Only the female of E. scutica is known and the genitalia is similar to typical species of the genus Ecnomina . The associated larva of E. scutica is similar to known typical Ecnomina larvae. This evidence of the Ecnomina -like female and larva of scutica , plus the presence of transverse posterolateral setal warts on the head of all four species, best place the group within Ecnomina , despite the presence of the nygma. Members of this group are from eastern Australia, one each from NE-Queensland, SE-Queensland and two from E-Victoria.
Forewing length about 2.8–3.1 times width: male 4.4–6.2 mm, female 5.6–6.7 mm; forks 2, 3, 4 and 5 present; fork 2 relatively long, sessile or with short footstalk, footstalk length up to 0.4 times length cross-vein m, nygma present, length fork 2 about 1.1–1.3 times length of fork 3; fork 3 relatively long, sessile or with very short footstalk, length fork 3 at least ten times length footstalk, footstalk length 0–0.3 times length crossvein m; r-m and m displaced at fork 3 by about 1.4–3.2 times length cross-vein m; fork 4 slightly shorter than fork 3; fork 5 long, about 1.8 times length of fork 4. Hindwing length about 2.6–3.0 times width, forks 2, 3 and fork 5 present; fork 2 sessile or with short footstalk, length footstalk up to 0.7 times length cross-vein m, fork 2 length about 1.2–1.3 times length of fork 3 ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1–6 ).
