Cypholoba gracilis scrobiculata (Bertoloni, 1847) View in CoL Figs 8, 9 30
Anthia scrobiculata Bertoloni (1847:90, type locality "in provincia Inhambanensi Monzambici," holotype in Accademia della Scienze dell’Istituto Bologna, Italy)
Polyhirma scrobiculata (Bertoloni) Péringuey (1896:342)
Cypholoba gracilis scrobiculata (Bertoloni) Strohmeyer (1928:315)
Diagnosis.
Apparent body length (ABL) 19-20 mm; similar in general body form and appearance to Cypholoba gracilis gracilis but differing from that subspecies in having the median line of the pronotum not markedly impressed and in having the elytral punctures oval rather than round.
Materials examined.
1 specimen from the following locality: RSA: Limpopo Province: Zoutpansberg.
Notes on taxonomy.
Based on the rather significant differences in the pronotal and elytral surface sculpture, Cypholoba gracilis scrobiculata may ultimately prove to represent a species distinct from Cypholoba gracilis . A thorough review of the Cypholoba gracilis species complex with a rigorous evaluation of the 41 subspecific taxa proposed by Strohmeyer (1928) is needed.
