Cyana (Cyabarda) torrida maculata Karisch, 2013 , Esperiana View in CoL 18: 126, pl. 19, fig. 143 (Type locality: “ Rwanda, Nyungwe, 2000 m ”).
Material examined. 8 ♂, Rwanda, Nyungwe , 2000m, K6, B. Turlin, 23.IV. [19]77, slide ZSM Arct. 176/2017 ♂ Volynkin (Coll. ZSM) ; 1 ♂, same locality and collector, but 30.III.74 (Coll. ZSM) ; 2 ♂, same locality and collector, but 29.XI.75 (Coll. ZSM) ; 1 ♂, same locality and collector, but 23.X.76 (Coll. ZSM) .
Remark. In the subspecies’ original description, Karisch (2013) did not illustrate its male genitalia, mentioning only that “In ♂ genitalia, no differences from nominat C. torrida could be found, and for this reason these specimens are provisionally treated as subspecies”.
Diagnosis. Forewing length is 14–15 mm in males. The species is easily recognizable by its large size and characteristic dotted forewing pattern ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 9–15 ). Cyana maculata is the closest relative of C. lowa ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 9–15 ). The differences between the two species are explained in the diagnosis of C. lowa .
Distribution. The species is known so far only from southwestern Rwanda (Nyungwe Forest).
