TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Alpibus Insubriae [Insubrian (= Lombardy, Italy) Alps]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype ( MZUF: Box 6): Lejogaster virgo Rnd., Salò / 295 / Lectotypus Crysogaster (Lejogaster) virgo Rondani, 1865 , ♀, des. A. Maibach, 1991 / = Lejogaster metallina (Fabr., 1781) , det. A. Maibach, II.1991.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Lejogaster virgo View in CoL ( Peck 1988: 138, Belcari et al. 1995a: 14); junior synonym of Lejogaster metallina (Fabricius, 1781) ( Maibach et al. 1994: 258) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1865a: 138) described Crysogaster virgo from just the female sex without specifying the number of specimens or the length of the specimens. Maibach et al. (1994: 258) designated a lectotype (♀). Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Crysogaster, which is an “unjustified emendation of Chrysogaster Meigen, 1803 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 66).
