Craspedophorus mandarinus (Schaum, 1853)

Schaum described this species from specimens collected in Hong Kong by M. Bowring, and commented it was very rare. Also listed for Hong Kong by Redtenbacher (1857), Chaudoir (1861b), Gemminger & Harold (1868), Chaudoir (1878), Fairmaire (1889), Bates (1892), Andrewes (1924), Jedlièka (1965a), Hill (1982), Hua (2002), Baehr (2003b), Häckel & Farka (2012) and Häckel & Kirschenhofer (2014b). Biology: Imago found April to July and December. Seems to have a preference for well drained (sandy) areas and possibly associated with banana trees. Possibly with a single generation emerging in May. Can be attracted to light. It may well be a lot commoner now than it was in the mid nineteenth century, when Schaum commented it was very rare. Fully winged.
