ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1850c: 167.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Aegypti [ Egypt]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype ( MRSN: Box 1752): Conopajus [sic!] Rndn. / aegyptianus Rndn., Aegyptium / Ott. e Nov. 1869, Egitto, Alessandria e Cairo .

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Conops aegyptiacus ( Chvála & Smith 1988: 248) View in CoL ; junior synonym of Conops elegans Meigen, 1804 View in CoL ( Stuke 2016: 522, 2017: 24).

REMARKS: Rondani (1850a: 167) described Conopaejus aegyptiacus from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from E. Truqui. Stuke (2016: 522, 2017: 24) assumed that the type has been lost. We found one syntype in this study.
