Colimacoris joceliae Kim & Jung sp. nov.

( Figs. 1–2 View FIGURE View FIGURE )

Diagnosis. This species can be separated from its congeners by following combination of characters: scutellum mostly dark brown, with medial pale patches; inner part of clavus dark brown along claval vein; hemelytron mostly subhyaline, with small dark markings near commissure suture, vein in membrane transparent; cuneus entirely hyaline; hind femur entirely yellow brown.

Description. Male: Unknown.

Female: Body elongate oval. Coloration. Mostly pale brown with dark patterns ( Figs. 1A, B View FIGURE ). Head: Head pale brown; frons with V-shaped dark marking; neck region with a dark, transverse band, interrupted medially by a longitudinal pale line; clypeus dark brown basally, paler distally; juga dark brown ( Figs. 1E–G View FIGURE ); antennae mostly brown, first segment with lateral dark line; second and third segments brown except for dark apical part; labium entirely pale brown. Thorax: Pronotum mostly dark brown; pronotal collar somewhat darker, especially along anterior and posterior margins; lateral margins of calli and humeral angles of pronotum with dark markings, lateroventral area of pronotum with dark line reaching markings of calli and humeral angle ( Figs. 1A, C View FIGURE ); scutellum mostly dark brown with pale patches medially, clearly separated from pale mesoscutum; lateral margins of mesoscutum dark brown; hemelytron subhyaline, mostly pale brown with dark markings; clavus much darker, mesially dark brown along with claval and commissure sutures, basal and apical parts dark brown; corium entirely pale brown, except darker mesially; cuneus entirely subhyaline; membrane with veins entirely hyaline, except for dark basal part ( Fig. 1A View FIGURE ); legs entirely pale brown, except for dark third tarsal segment; hind femora with dark markings subapically on ventral side; middle and hind tibiae each with a narrow dark ring subbasally. Abdomen: entirely pale brown.

Surface and Vestiture. Body glossy, partly covered with golden pubescence; head with sparse short pubescence; pronotum with large and distinct punctures, except for calli region, covered with dense and short pubescence; scutellum with long and dense pubescence; hemelytra with sparse pubescence, punctures along claval and R+M veins.

Structure. Head: hypognathous, width greater than anterior width of pronotum; width of vertex greater than width of a compound eye; ventrolateral margin of each compound eye not reaching buccula; antennae linear; first antennal segment cylindrical, slightly thicker than other segments, much longer than width of head; proportions of first three antennal segments 1.4: 2.0: 1.2; labium extending to hind coxae; proportions of labial segments one through four: 0.4: 0.4: 0.4: 0.6. Thorax: pronotum trapezoidal, shallow transverse depression separating anterior and posterior lobes, posterior margin concave, medial longitudinal pronotal length slightly longer than 1/2 basal width; calli swollen laterally; scutellum slightly tumid, anterior width more than 1/2 basal pronotal width, medial length greater than commissure length; metathoracic scent gland evaporative area relatively large, tetragonal ( Fig. 1D View FIGURE ); lateral margins of hemelytra rounded; each cuneus equilateral, triangular; legs slender, long; middle and hind coxa separated in ventral view ( Fig. 1B View FIGURE ); third tarsal segment longest. Abdomen: elongate, exceeding apices of cunei.

Genitalia. Sclerotized rings half-moon shaped, with a long process at downward apex ( Fig. 2A View FIGURE ); posterior wall simple, interramal lobe narrow, tapered to apex, interramal sclerite not solid ( Fig. 2B View FIGURE ); valvular simple, indistinct serrations apically ( Fig. 2C View FIGURE ).

Measurements. Female (n=1) Body length, from apex of clypeus to apex of membrane: 6.67; head length: 0.47; head width, across compound eyes: 1.02; interocular width: 0.49; antennal segment I length: 1.44; antennal segment II length: 2.02; antennal segment III length: 1.23; antennal segment IV length: missing; total antennal length (first through third segments): 4.69; labial segment I length: 0.45; labial segment II length: 0.48; labial segment III length: 0.39; labial segment IV length: 0.64; total labial length: 1.96; medial pronotal length: 1.07; basal pronotal maximal width (straight): 1.92; scutellum width: 1.23; scutellum length: 1.08; commissure length: 0.79; outer embolial margin length (straight): 3.21; outer cuneal margin length (straight): 0.96; maximal width across one hemelytron: 1.34; hind leg (femur: tibia: tarsus): 2.86: 3.39: 0.68.

Specimen examined. [USNM] Holotype: 1♀, Panama: Chiriquí —BdT [Bocas del Toro], continental divide on Gualaça Chiriqui Grande Hwy , 14.vi.1985, E. Riley & D. Rider leg.

Biology. Unknown

Etymology. This species is named in honor of our friend and colleague Dra. Jocelia Grazia, in celebration of her 75th birthday, and in recognition of her prosperous career, especially her many contributions to the systematics of the Pentatomoidea. A noun in genitive case.

Distribution. Panama.

Remarks. This species is similar in general appearance to Colimacoris occidentalis , but it can be easily distinguished by almost entirely dark scutellum, and the dark markings on each clavus (see Schaffner & Carvalho, 1985 for original description with illustration of C. occidentalis ). The other two species of Colimacoris have lunateshaped markings on the hemelytra, which are lacking in C. joceliae (see Carvalho, 1989; and 1992 for original description with illustration of C. salvadorensis and C. nicaraguensis respectively).
