Cleotomiris levigatus n. sp.
( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 A −B, E, 2−3)
Diagnosis. Recognized by its dark brown, medium-sized, ant-mimetic body; generally thick antenna; shiny, polished pronotum; and brown hemelytron. Most closely related to C. yamadakazi Yasunaga , from which this new species can be distinguished by the smaller size, narrower vertex, more polished pronotum, reddish brown hemelytron with the white apical half of the corium and different shape of the male genitalia (hooked left paramere hypophysis, subapical spine of phallotheca, and coiled endosoma as in Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ).
Description. Male: Body elongate, ant-mimetic, medium sized; dorsal surface brown except for fuscous pronotum, scutellum and posterior 1/3 of hemelytron, with rather uniformly distributed, simple, silky, upright setae. Head brown, rather shining; eye large. Antenna entirely brown; each segment generally thickened. Labium shiny chestnut brown, somewhat tinged with red, reaching apex of mesocoxa. Pronotum shiny fuscous, polished; collar brown, shagreened, with silvery, reclining, short setae; scutellum shiny, flat. Pleura pale reddish brown; propleuron shiny fuscous as in pronotum; ostiolar peritreme somewhat yellowish, with an ear-like evaporative area medially. Hemelytron widely brown, matte, with two whitish, partly irregular fasciae as in Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A & B); posterior apex of clavus narrowly white; membrane smoky brown, with triangularly whitened anterior half. All coxae and legs brown, partly tinged with red. Abdomen shiny fuscous. Genitalia as in Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ; pygophore with a median spine ventrally ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ). Phallotheca with hooked apex and a subapical spine; right paramere long and straight; apex of left paramere hypophysis hooked; endosoma elongate, coiled, with secondary gonopore situated at middle. Female: Unknown.
Measurements (♂): Total body length 3.68; length from apex of clypeus to cuneal fracture 2.55; width of head across eyes 0.82; vertex width 0.17; lengths of antennal segments I −IV 0.25, 0.86, 0.48, 0.43; labial length 1.40; mesal length of pronotum including collar 0.77; basal width of pronotum 1.09; maximum width across hemelytron 1.13; and lengths of metafemur, tibia and tarsus 1.09, 1.37, 0.34.
Etymology. From Latin, levigatus (= smooth, polished, or shiny), referring to the well-polished pronotum; an adjective.
