Distribution in Iran. Ardabil ( Modarres Awal 1987, 1997b; Linnavuori 2007), East Azarbaijan ( Modarres Awal 1997a, b; Sadaghian et al. 2002; Hassanzadeh et al. 2009a, b; Sadeghi et al. 2009; Gharaat et al. 2009; Khaghaninia et al. 2010a, b, 2011; Nikdel et al. 2011); Fars ( Linnavuori 2012), Golestan ( Wagner 1968; Hoberlandt 1989; Heiss 2002), Guilan ( Wagner 1968; Hoberlandt 1989; Hosseini & Linnavuori 2002; Linnavuori 2007), Khorasan ( Wagner 1968; Modarres Awal 1996a, 1997b, 2008), Kordestan ( Sakenin et al. 2010; Samin et al. 2011), Mazandaran ( Kerzhner & Rieger 1985; Hoberlandt 1989), Sistan & Baluchestan ( Seidenstücker 1957), Tehran ( Hoberlandt 1955, 1989; Kerzhner & Rieger 1985; Linnavuori 2007), West Azarbaijan (Gharaat et al. 2009), Zanjan ( Askari et al. 2009), northern Iran (no locality cited) ( Lindberg 1938).
General distribution. Euro-Siberian.
Comments. On Beta vulgaris (Chenopodiaceae) , Centaurea sp. ( Asteraceae ) ( Modarres Awal 1996a), Cirsium sp. ( Asteraceae ) ( Modarres Awal 1997a, b), Rumex sp. and Polygonum sp. ( Chenopodiaceae ), Asteraceae , and Rosaceae ( Linnavuori 2007) .
Note. In Iran it is possible to find the two forms marginatus and syriacus (sometimes together in the same stations), so we have mixed all the data by Modarres Awal (1987, 1996a), Yarmand et al. (2002), Hosseini & Linnavuori (2002), Sadaghian et al. (2002), Hassanzadeh et al. (2009a, b), Sadeghi et al. (2009), Askari et al. (2009), and Gharaat et al. (2009). Another subspecies ( C. marginatus orientalis Kiritshenko 1916 ) occurs in Japan, Korea, China, and Far East.
