Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken in Senta Passage, southeast of New Hanover at 5–16 m depth, St. KR 118, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); a specimen observed at Kulaumis Island , Kavieng District , 1–10 m depth, St. T 17, on 4 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Mozambique Channel, Oman, Madagascar Channel, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Fiji and Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland ( Australia). Found on shallow reef flats, 0–5 m depth. Marine.
