Status at New Ireland. Recorded from New Ireland in original description by Allen et al. (2015: 24). The species was previously known from Papua New Guinea as Chrysiptera rex (non Snyder, 1909); a video of a specimen taken at Tungelo Island, off southeastern New Hanover, at 3–46 m depth, St. KR104, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Halmahera (eastern Indonesia) east to Vanuatu, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Found on inshore rocky substrates, 1–6 m depth. Marine.
