Choerades nigrovittatus (Matsumura) : Hisamatsu, 1965: 203.

Small black flies, 11 mm. Easily distinguished by the distinct bare, black, narrow integumental median stripe of scutum surrounded by microsetae. The entire fly, including most setae are black.

Redescription. Head: Face black with black hair and bristles. Mystax long, thick, gold/yellow. Gibbosity surface bare, black integument. Parafacial margin very narrow. Orbital hair short, black. Proboscis apex dorsally angulated (angled downwards). Short black postocular hair. Ocellar tubercle with black hair and 2 long black bristles. Antenna entirely black with black hair. Postpedicel (segment 3) with an apical pit; relative lengths of segments: 3>1>2. Thorax: Black, covered in microsetae. Distinct dark, narrow, bare median stripe of scutum. Postpronotal hair, sparse, short. Chaetotaxy with 1 notopleural, 4 supraalar, 3 postalar bristles, all black. Weak, sparse dorsocentral hair. Scutellum surface wrinkled, covered in micro­pubescence. Scutellar margin with sparse fine hair. Lateral aspect of thorax black wrinkled integument with fine, sparse hair. Anepisternum with 2 strong posterior bristles. Katatergal bristles long, spiraled at apices. Anatergite black integument. Legs: Entirely black with black hair and bristles. Wings: Tinged black with black veins; costal cell covered in black mirco­pubescence. Abdomen: Black, covered in evenly distributed sparse, black hair. Tergites 1, 2 and 3 with long lateral yellow hair and bristles; subsequent tergites with shot, yellow lateral hair. Male genitalia: ( Figs 6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 , 12 View FIGURES 7 – 12 & 18 View FIGURES 13 – 18 .) Female: Similar to male except abdominal hair sparser. Mystax much reduced, all black intermingled with some white/silver hairs. Tergite 1 with 3 black bristles; tergite 2 with 1 black bristle.
