Gastroptychus affinis ( Chace, 1942) View in CoL
Gastroptychus affinis was previously reported as Chirostylus affinis (see Baba et al. 2008). Gastroptychus affinis was collected in the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and in the Atlantic in depths of 78 to 635 m ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ). Two males were collected, one in October and one in November; carapace widths (CWs) were 9.5 mm and 15.0 mm. Three ovigerous females were collected in March, April, and May ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 A) with CW ranging from 10.8 to 16.4 mm. The number of eggs was recorded from two females, 102 and 310, belonging to the smaller and the larger of the ovigerous females, respectively; the third female was not measured. The average egg diameter ranged from 1.16 to 1.33 mm. There was insufficient sample size to determine size fecundity relationships.
