Cheilolejeunea grosseoleosa C.J. Bastos & Schäf. View in CoL -Verw., sp. nov. Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 , pl. 2
Similar to Cheilolejeunea oncophylla ( Ångström 1876: 86) Grolle &. Reiner-Drehwald (1997: 781), but differing from this by being dioicous, one large coarsely segmented oil body per cell, mammillose to papillose cells, orbicular to ovate, falcate leaf lobe, lobule short, inflated, but reduced lobules frequent, second tooth short, acute, ovate to orbicular underleaves, gynoecial bracts and bracteole with strongly papillose cells; pycnolejeuneoid innovation.
Type:― BRAZIL: São Paulo, Litoral Norte, Ilha de São Sebastião , 23°51’S, 45°20’W, Regenwald (Mata Atlântica primária) am Westabhang (Weg F 1 ), epiphytisch, 450 m, 7 Oct. 1990, Schäfer-Verwimp & Verwimp 13204 (holotype JE; isotypes ALCB, SP) GoogleMaps .
Plants small, (375‒)430‒460 μm wide, vegetative branches Lejeunea - type. Stem width 50‒55 μm in diameter, in cross section with 7 cortical cells and 8‒9 medullary cells, thick-walled. Ventral merophytes two cells wide. Leaves spreading, imbricate; leaf lobe ovate, falcate, 180‒270 μm long, 140‒200 μm wide, dorsal margin arched, crenulate, ventral margin arched, forming an angle with the keel, crenulate, lobe apex rounded-acute to short apiculate, curved; basal cells oblong, 48 μm long × 13 μm wide, median cells oblong to hexagonal, 15 μm long × 10 μm wide, thin-walled, mammillose to papillose in dorsal surface, trigones small, intermediate thickenings occasional to absent; one large very coarsely segmented oil body per cell, (5‒)6‒9 μm wide × (10‒)11‒14 μm long, composed only of 4‒6 globules, chloroplasts ca. 2 × 4 μm; ocelli absent; lobule small, strongly inflated, ovate, 90‒120 μm long × 70‒80 μm wide, free margin involute, second tooth acute, hyaline, oblique, hyaline papilla in distal base of second tooth, first tooth not differentiated, keel arched, papillose. Underleaves small, 80‒105 μm long × 75‒80 μm wide, ovate to orbicular, bifid to 1/2, lobes acute, base cuneate, insertion line curved. Dioicous (?). Androecia not seen. Gynoecia terminal, innovation long, pycnolejeuneoid type, lobe bracts obovate, 470 μm long × 230 μm wide, cells papillose, margin crenulate, apex acute, curved, bracteole bifid, obovate, 380 μm long × 250 μm wide, cells papillose; perianth obopyriform, 5-keeled, 480 μm long × 360 μm wide, rostrum short, 40 μm long × 40 μm wide.
Etymology: In reference to the characteristic oil bodies of the species. Distribution and ecology: This species is known only from the type locality. On bark of tree trunk, in primary rainforest on a gently western slope at 450 m. a.s.l. Only single plants of Radula kegelii Gottsche ex Stephani (1884: 152) and Fissidens lagenarius Mitten (1868: 184) are admixed to the type specimen.
