Type material

Holotype: „, Taiwan: Kaohsung , Hungshuichi, 22. XI. 1997, Kazuhiro Masunaga (KU) . Paratypes: 10 „„, same data as holotype (KU).

Diagnosis

The new species is similar to Chaetogonopteron pallipilosum Yang and Grootaert from Yunnan, but may be separated from the latter by having the three to four irregularly paired acr (before third dc), and all tibiae and tarsomeres 1–4 yellow. In pallipilosum , the acr is 9–10 irregularly paired, the fore tibia is pale, the fore tarsomere 1 is brown, the fore tarsomeres 2–5 are pale with the dorsal surface black, the hind tibia and tarsus are dark brown ( Yang and Grootaert 1999b).

Description

Male. Body length 2.8–3.5 mm, wing length 3.7–3.9 mm.

Head metallic green, with pale grey pollinosity; eyes contiguous on face. Hairs and bristles on head black; lower postocular bristles (including posterior ventral hairs) pale. Antenna dark yellow; first flagellomere dark yellow, subtriangular, as long as wide; arista dorsal, dark brown, very short pubescent, with basal segment rather short ( Figure 1B View Figure 1 ). Proboscis brownish with black hairs; palpus dark yellow with black hairs and one apical bristle.

Thorax yellow, with pale grey pollinosity; mesonotum metallic green with wide anterior and lateral portions dark yellow; scutellum metallic green, with yellow lateral margins; pteropleuron with a black spot on antero-upper corner; laterotergite with black anterior margin. Hairs and bristles on thorax black; six strong dc (first dc weak), three to four irregularly paired acr (before third dc). Propleuron with one black bristle on lower part. Scutellum with one pair of apical bristles rather long and one pair of basal bristles somewhat short. Legs yellow; all coxae yellow, mid coxa with a black anterior strip and a very small black spot on postero-upper corner; tarsomere 5 dark brown. Hairs and bristles on legs black; fore coxa with four to six apical bristles, mid coxa with one anterior bristle, hind coxa with one outer bristle at basal third. Fore femur with one av and one pv apically, mid and hind femora each with one preapical bristle, one av and one pv apically. Mid tibia with three ad, one pd and one av; hind tibia with five long ad and one row of about ten v, apically with three bristles. Hind tarsomeres 1–3 each with three erect v, segments 1–2 shortened and subequal in length, segment 2 with a long furcate worm-like appendage ( Figure 1C View Figure 1 ). Relative lengths of tibia and five tarsomeres LI 5.3:4.3:2.0:2.0:1.0:0.5; LII 9.3:4.1:2.5:2.0:1.0:0.5; LIII 10.7:0.9:0.8:3.6:1.8:0.5. Wing hyaline, tinged with grey ( Figure 1A View Figure 1 ); veins brown, R 4+5 and M parallel apically, M weakly bent at middle; CuAx ratio 0.8. Squama brown with dark margin, and with long black hairs. Halter yellow with brown base.

Abdomen chiefly black, with grey pollinosity; lateral and ventral portions dark yellow. Hairs and bristles on abdomen black. Male genitalia ( Figure 1D View Figure 1 ). Epandrium distinctly longer than wide, apically with furcated lateral process, bearing two long strong bristles; surstylus with long and curved dorsal lobe bearing one long bristle at middle, and wide ventral lobe bearing apical bristles; cercus somewhat narrow apically; hypandrium rather wide.
