Cercopimorpha hoffmanni Zerny, 1931b: 15 (Taf. 1, fig. 16). Lectotype hereby designated, male: [ BRAZIL], Santa Catarina, Jaraguá (Fr. Hoffmann), with two labels: one printed label “Sta. Catharina, Jaraguá, Fr. Hoffmann ” with the date handwritten on the underside “ 7.ix. [19]29”; and a handwritten label “ Cercopimorpha hoffmanni Zerny ♂ type ”. Three paralectotypes, all males, with the same labels, but different dates: “ 6.xi. [19]29”; “ 20.xi.1929 ”; and “ 31.x. [19]29”.
Current combination. Cercopimorpha hoffmanni Zerny, 1931 .
Condition of the types. Lectotype. Perfect condition. Paralectotypes. In perfect condition, except for the specimen from 31.x. [19]29, which has the two hind legs broken.
Remarks. This species was described from four males from the same locality. According to Zerny (1931b), C. hoffmanni is closely related to Heliura dolens Schaus, 1905 , and they may in fact be sister species. The genitalia of a male deposited at the MZSP is illustrated in Figure 51 View FIGURES 49–54 .
Cercopimorpha Butler, 1876 currently includes seven valid species, five of which share a similar habitus: C. hoffmanni , C. homopteridia Butler, 1876 , H. dolens , H. postflavida Rothschild, 1912 and C. sylva Schaus, 1920 . This phenotype was the very reason for the creation of the genus; according to Butler (1876b) the type species, C. homopteridia , resembles an homopteran, hence the name of the species. The name of the genus, on the other hand, is an allusion to Cercopidae View in CoL . Despite Butler's suggestion, it is not known which species of Cercopidae View in CoL could have been the one that he thought was similar to C. homopteridia (Dr. Andressa Paladini, personal information).
The two remaining species currently placed in the genus, C. tetragonia Hampson, 1898 and C. meterythra Hampson, 1898 , have a very different habitus, and may not belong in it. Their habitus resembles that of Diabaena cincticollis Felder, 1874 , type species of Diabaena Felder, 1874, which is currently a junior subjective synonym of Uranophora Hübner , [1831].
