Status at New Ireland. New record, based on photographs taken on 3 June 2013, first dive, during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District; a video of a specimen taken on east side of Tsoileunung Island, southeast of New Hanover , at 6–21 m depth, St. KR 124, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: East Africa east to Hawaiian, Marquesas and Tuamotu islands, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Solitary or in aggregations, in coral rubble areas of lagoons, passages and slopes of seaward coral reefs, 10–95 m depth. Marine.
