Centris (Cyanocentris) buchwaldi Friese, 1901: 346 View in CoL . Junior synonym of C. maculifrons Smith, 1854 View in CoL ( Moure et al. 2007).

Type data: Friese described this species from a type series formed by seven females collected by F. G. von Buchwald in Guayaquil, southwest Ecuador. Four of the seven syntypes were found at ZMB and one of them is here designated the lectotype. The specimen has the following data label: Guayaquil v. Buchwald. [handwritten]\ Centris buchwaldii Friese ♀ [handwritten]\ Slg. Alfken [printed] ( ZMB). Paralectotype female with the following data label: Guayaquil v. Buchw [handwritten]\ Centris buchwaldi Friese ♀ [handwritten]\ Slg. Alfken [printed] ( ZMB). Paralectotype female with the following data label: Guayaquil v. Type locality: Ecuador: Guayas province: Guayaquil .

Comment: This species is easily identifiable by the dark brown to black pubescence on the intertegular area (sometimes extended on the anterior half of the mesoscutum) combined with the greenish metallic metasoma with orange pubescence on distal terga in both sexes.
