Calyxochaetus bovanodatus sp. nov.

( Figs 122 View FIGURES 120–131 , 139 View FIGURES 139–143 , 144 View FIGURES 144–146 )

Type material. HOLOTYPE ♂, labeled: “ Afton : K.C. Kim / Wash. Co., Minn./ May 7 1960 ”; “HOLOTYPE/ Calyxochaetus / bovanodatus / J.B. Runyon [red label]” ( USNM) ( Fig. 139 View FIGURES 139–143 ).

Diagnosis. This species is very similar to C. nodatus but differs in having mid tarsomeres 2–4 swollen ( Fig. 122 View FIGURES 120–131 ) and the position of the long ventral seta on the hind tibia.

Description. Male. Wing length 3.3 mm. Similar to C. nodatus except as noted: Thorax: Scutellum with indistinct blue-violet reflections. Legs: Midleg: Tarsus ( Fig. 122 View FIGURES 120–131 ) with tarsomere 2 elongate ovate, rather swollen, concave ventrally, with anteroapical projection broader and rounded. Tarsomeres 3–4 swollen and nearly round, tarsomere 3 with ventral setae smaller and straight. Hindleg: Tibia with long slender ventral seta near 1/3 (one leg has additional short slender seta near 1/5).

Female. Unknown.

Distribution and seasonal occurrence. Known only from the holotype collected at Afton, Minnesota on May 7.

Etymology. The specific epithet is from the Latin bova (a swelling of the legs) + nodatus , in reference to this species being similar to C. nodatus but having swollen mid tarsomeres.
