Calyria fenestrata ( Fabricius, 1803) new record

REMARKS.—This species was previously known from a specimen collected in an unknown locality in South America ( Fabricius 1803). Berger provided specimens for determination from the Estacion Cientifica San Francisco, Zamora-Chinchipe Province, and these represent the first known locality for the species. The lack of an apical spot on the fore wing and the ferruginous body coloration distinguishes this species from the other Calyria species in Ecuador.

Berger (2001) reported the species in low, shrubby, open vegetation between 1850 m and 1900 m elevation. The species avoided the forest and was allows active in full sunshine ( Berger 2001). The song is reported to be a series of short syllables between 25–36 ms duration separated by interpulse intervals of about 67 ms with a peak frequency between 9–10 kHz ( Berger 2001)

DISTRIBUTION.—The species has been reported previously only from South America without any more specific information on locality provided ( Metcalf 1963c). These specimens represent the first known locality for the species.
