Bullina Férussac, 1822: 30 . Type species: Bulla scabra Gmelin, 1791 [= Bullina lineata (Gray, 1825) ; Recent, Indo-West Pacific], by subsequent designation of Adams (1862).

Synonyms:

Bullinula Beck in Sowerby, 1839: 15. Type species: Bulla lineata Gray, 1825 [Recent, Indo-West Pacific], by monotypy.

Perbullina Iredale, 1926: 350-351 . Type species: Perbullina errans Iredale, 1926 [= Bullina vitrea Pease, 1860 ; Recent, New South Wales, Australia], by monotypy.

DIAGNOSIS. — Shell morphology. Shell external, fragile, oval; sculpture of punctuations arranged in spiral lines; apex low, conical. Aperture longitudinal, anteriorly rounded. Columella dilated and twisted at the anterior end. Operculum present.

Anatomy. Large headshield, with a long pair of posterior projecting lobes. Foot wide and long, projecting beyond the shell. Radula composed of a single, simple rachidian tooth and several denticulate lateral teeth.

REMARKS. — Several species of this genus have been described from Indo-Pacific shallow waters. Most species are clearly distinguishable based on shell morphology and colouration, but the radular morphology also plays an important role in the systematics of the group (Rudman 1971b). The above diagnosis of the genus is based on the paper by Rudman (1972b), who studied the anatomy of this group in detail.
