Perennial; flowering stems 16-30 cm, arising from a rhizome, erect, unbranched, appressedhairy. Leaves up to 6-5 x 2-5 cm, the middle and upper crowded, ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate, semiamplexicaul, acuminate, appressed-hairy, the lowest scale-like. Cymes solitary or paired; flowers crowded; pedicels nearly as long as the calyx. Calyxlobes linear-lanceolate, acute. Corolla 12-14 mm, at first purple or violet, then blue. Filaments inserted 1-1-5 mm above the base of corolla-tube. Style 0-5-1 mm. Nutlets 4-5 x 4-5 mm, ovoid, acute, keeled near the apex, yellowish, punctate-reticulate. Mountain woods and rocky slopes. • W. Pyrenees. Ga.
