Brachysomus argutus Košťál, 1992: 44 . Type locality: Romania, Zarandului Mountains.

Redescription. Measurements: Body length 1.79–1.98 mm, width 1.05 mm. Vestiture: Body covered with recumbent scales and suberect, oblong-lanceolate setae. elytra and head densely covered with grayish-brown, oval scales; apical margin of scales excised. Disc of pronotum sparsely scaled. Setae at elytra erect, forming straight sparse rows at interstriae, 0.3x as long as interstrial width. Antennal funicle with thin sparse hairs. Antennal scape, tibiae, and tarsi with dense hairs and widened setae. Abdomen covered with recumbent hairs and piliform scales. Colouration: Body, legs and antennae brown.

Head: Rostrum almost parallel-sided, as long as wide. Pterygia well visible from above, weakly projecting from outline of rostrum. Epifrons parallel-sided, distinctly convex longitudinally, with moderate transverse depression and distinct median longitudinal sulcus. Dorsal margin of antennal scrobes reaching base of rostrum. Vertex flat. Eyes small (VW/ELD= 0.5), oval, strongly convex, situated weakly lower than level of vertex. Antennae: Scape strongly curved, evenly widened from middle to apex; funicular antennomeres: 1st and 2nd elongate; 3rd–7th transverse. Club spindle-shaped, slightly separated from 7th funicular antennomere; 1st club antennomere trapeziform, evenly widened distally.

Thorax: Pronotum strongly transverse, strongly convex at sides, not constricted near anterior margin; disc almost flat, finely, densely punctate. Elytra: almost globose (EL/EW = 1.28), sharply convex at sides and weakly convex at disc (especially in females). Base of elytra weakly concave. Striae narrow, punctures weakly separated, 2x narrower than interstriae. Interstriae weakly convex and shiny. Legs: Femora distinctly swollen in middle part, tibiae slender and long, straight externally, not widened in distal angle, weakly sinuate internally. Hind tibiae in male evenly widened distally and weakly mucronate. Second tarsomere strongly transverse, 3rd with broad lobes. Fifth fore tarsomere extending beyond apical lobes of 3rd by length of the lobes.

Abdomen: Male 5th ventrite flat, without subapical depression, with posterior margin obtuse. Male genitalia: Median lobe moderately sclerotized, 1.7x shorter than apodemes, parallel-sided, distinctly narrowed and acute at apical 1/3.

Diagnosis. Brachysomus verae is closely related to B. carpathicus , differs in following characters: eyes small and strongly convex; epifrons with median longitudinal sulcus and separated from vertex by strong transverse depression; elytral interstriae with very short, almost recumbent setae; structure of male genitalia.

Distribution. Romania (Munţii Žarandului Range).

Remarks. This species was described for several specimens from Žarandului Mounts (Romania). Unfortunately, I failed to find the main type series deposited in the National Museum in Prague.

Bionomics. Unknown.

Type material. ROMANIA: 1♂ Paratype (BRc) ‘Romania occ., M. Zarandului, M. Košťál leg.’, ‘Ghioroc p. Arad, 300 m, 17.iv.1983’.
