Boydaia pycnonoti Fain, 1956b: 650 , 655, figs. 10–12. Holotype in RMCA, examined. Boydaia (Boydaia) pycnonoti, Fain 1958b: 176 , 180, fig. 4, 1963d: 57, 67, 1971: 98, 102, 109, figs. 35–37; Fain et al. 1977: 393.

Type host: Pycnonotus barbatus tricolor (Hartlaub) ( Passeriformes : Pycnonotidae ) from Rwanda.

Diagnosis. Hypostome with 2 pairs of setae. Setae ve present. Setae vi situated posterior to level of setae si. Sensillae SEa-type. Agenital and pseudanal series with 2 pairs of setae, each. Number of leg setae: coxae 2–1–1–0, trochanters 1–1–0–0, femora 7–4–3–3, genua 4–4–3–3, tibiae 5–3–3–3. All setae on genu and tibia of leg I similar in shape. In larvae, antaxial and paraxial claw pair of leg I unequal, both very short and sharp-ended.

Hosts and distribution. Passeriformes (Pycnonotidae) : PycnOnOtus barbatus (Desfontaines) from Cameroon [Galim] ( Fain et al. 1977) and South Africa [Pretoria, Transvaal] (present paper), P. b. tricOlOr (Hartlaub) from Rwanda [Southern Prov., Akanyaru] ( Fain 1956b), P. xanthOpygOs (Hemprich and Ehrenberg) from Kenya [Djaro] (present paper), P. JOcOsus (Linnaeus) from Zimbabwe (present paper).

Non-African hosts and distribution. Pycnonotidae : PycnOnOtus leucOtis (Gould) from India and P. gOiavier persOnatus Hume from Malaysia ( Fain 1963d).

New material examined. Three females from PycnOnOtus barbatus (Desfontaines) ( Passeriformes : Pycnonotidae ), SOUTH AFRICA: Pretoria, Transvaal, 30 December 1969, coll. unknown; 1 female from PycnOnOtus xanthOpygOs (Hemprich and Ehrenberg), KENYA: Djaro, no date, coll. Yunker; 2 females and 3 larvae from PycnOnOtus JOcOsus (Linnaeus), ZIMBABWE (based on host distribution; org. Avicentra): 21 December 1965, coll. unknown. All specimens deposited in the RBINS.
