Range:— West Indies; southern USA to Bolivia ( CH, CO, LP, SC, TA), Paraguay, and Argentina; introduced to Hawai’i.
Ecology:— Common; terrestrial in humid to semihumid forests, often in somewhat open and distrurbed habitats such along trail margins, but usually not in full sun; (400–) 650–2800 m.
Notes:— The rhizome scales tend to be darker than in Blechnume occidentale . Variable in size, petiole length, and density and length of rachis hairs. It may represent a species complex, or hybridize with other species, e.g., B. gracile , B. occidentale , and B. polypodioides .
