Material examined. 3 males, 67.3 by 44.7 mm—67.4 by 46.7 mm, 3 females, 66.5 by 44.0 mm—75.9 by 51.7 mm ( ZRC; JBN170302– 07 ), mangrove, Brgy. Sawang, Sibutad town , Zamboanga del Norte prov., coll. J.B. Neri, 22 Nov. 2017 .

Remarks. Ruppellia lata was described by A. Milne-Edwards (1873: 5) from a single specimen collected from “les îles Philippines ”, but without a precise locality indicated. This species was subsequently considered a synonym of Baptozius vinosus (H. Milne Edwards, 1834) by Balss (1932).

In the Philippines, Baptozius vinosus has previously been recorded from Puerto Galera, Mindoro I. ( Estampador 1937, 1959), where it was observed to be common on the edges of marshy swamps, under stones. Motoh (1990) also reports that this species is found in mudflats adjacent to mangroves, and is occasionally caught with bamboo traps and consumed as food by local communities. The present specimens of B. vinosus were collected from mud burrows in a mangrove area.

New record for Mindanao.
