41. Argyresthia (Argyresthia) triangulata , sp. nov. ( Figs. 51 View FIGURES 44 – 51 , 119 View FIGURES 114 – 119 , 175 View FIGURES 174 – 177 , 231 View FIGURES 221 – 232 , 277 View FIGURES 277 – 279 )

Description. Adult ( Fig. 51 View FIGURES 44 – 51 ) wingspan 15.0̄ 15.5 mm. Head with vertex pale yellowish white, frons yellowish white, face white. Labial palpus yellowish white, mixed with fuscous laterally. Antenna with scape yellowish white, pecten dark yellowish fuscous; flagellum yellowish white, ringed with blackish fuscous. Foreleg with coxa gray laterally, femur, tibia, and tarsus blackish fuscous on inner surface, each tarsomere blackish fuscous on outer surface distally, remainder white; midleg mostly white, femur, base, and distal part of tibia blackish fuscous dorsally, tarsus gray on outer surface, blackish fuscous on distal part of each tarsomere dorsally; hindleg mostly white, each tarsomere black distally. Thorax pale yellowish white; tegula blackish fuscous anteriorly, yellowish white posteriorly. Forewing ratio 4.5; ground color yellowish white or yellow; costa with about 13 dark fuscous dots, dots larger before middle, at basal 7/10, and before apex; dorsal spot large, triangular, dark reddish fuscous, between basal 1/4 and middle of wing, reaching 3/5 width of wing anteriorly; area from distal 2/5 of cell to apex tinged with pale fuscous, with a transverse fuscous stria on distal end of cell, apex fuscous; tornus with a dark fuscous spot; cilia pale yellow on costa except fuscous at costal dot, blackish fuscous around apex with black medial line, pale yellow on termen, gray on tornus. Hindwing and cilia uniformly gray. Abdomen dark gray dorsally, gray ventrally.

Variation. Costal dots vary in quantity and size. Dots near middle and at basal 7/10 sometimes not conspicuously enlarged. Triangular spot on dorsum sometimes smaller, reaching half width of the wing, or slightly trapezoidal, reaching above fold.

Male genitalia ( Figs. 119 View FIGURES 114 – 119 , 175 View FIGURES 174 – 177 , 231 View FIGURES 221 – 232 ): Tuba analis shorter than width of valva, sometimes with a short seta laterally on base. Socius covered with 25̄28 scale-like setae, bearing two to four short setae posteriorly ( Fig. 231 View FIGURES 221 – 232 ). Gnathos not inflated distally, without long thick setae apically. Valva with basal 4/5 nearly uniform in width, distal 1/5 slightly narrower, dorsal margin straight; row of long thick setae from center near ventral margin, sparsely to distal area. Saccus slightly shorter than width of valva, nearly uniform in width, rounded apically. Phallus curved medially, 3.3 times as long as width of valva ( Fig. 175 View FIGURES 174 – 177 ). Second sternite with 10̄15 micro-setae in each row; eighth sternite V-shaped, or slightly Y-shaped. Coremata present.

Female genitalia ( Fig. 277 View FIGURES 277 – 279 ): Ovipositor 2.8 times as long as eighth segment. Anterior apophysis 7/10 length of posterior apophysis, shortly bifurcate at middle, branches not extending to lamella postvaginalis. Lamella postvaginalis narrow triangular. Ostium bursae rectangular, ventral and lateral margins sclerotized. Antrum funnelshaped, 3/7 length of eighth segment. Ductus bursae densely spinulate near and before opening of ductus seminalis; ductus seminalis originating from before middle of ductus bursae. Corpus bursae oval, concave at middle laterally, densely denticulated, sparser anteriorly; signum with basal plate band-shaped, horns extending outward horizontally, anterior margin nearly straight.

Distribution. China (Yunnan).

Diagnosis. Argyresthia (A.) triangulata is most similar to A. (A.) aphoristis Meyrick, 1938 . It can be separated by the forewing with a large, well-defined, subtriangular, dark reddish fuscous spot on the dorsum, and by the male genitalia with the saccus nearly uniform in width. In A. (A.) aphoristis the relatively smaller black spot on the dorsum of the forewing is trapezoidal, representing part of the dorsal fascia, and the saccus is triangular and narrowed distally.

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin triangulatus, meaning triangular, referring to the large triangular spot on the dorsum.
