Whitish yellow. Crown with one black median spot on median carina and one small spot on posterior margin. Ocelli surrounded by black. Forewing with apical margin narrowly brown tinged.
Male genitalia. Pygofer lobe triangular with posterodorsal angle conically produced, with ventral slender elongate S-shaped process about twice as long as length of pygofer. Subgenital plates longer than pygofer with basal small segment, surface covered with slender setae. Aedeagus with large basal bulbous lobe (clearly seen in lateral view), extension of atrium short, dorsal apodeme plate-like, dorsolateral lobe narrow, shaft curved dorsoanteriorly, without processes, gonopore apical.
Measurements. Male 5.3 mm long, 1.0 mm wide across eyes and 1.2 mm wide across hind margins of pronotum.
Material examined. INDIA: Assam: Holotype ♂, Nagajanka, Jorhat, on weeds, 9.ix.1983, Maya Ram and Ramamurthy ( NPC) . Paratype: 1 ♂, same data as holotype ( NPC) .
Remarks. The pygofer, its ventral process and the structure of the aedeagus place this species in Apphia. It closely resembles A. flava sp. nov. but lacks the basal quadrate lobes of the aedeagal shaft (see below).
