Cainocreadium oscitans ( Linton, 1910) Cribb, 2005 View in CoL
Synonyms: Hamacreadium oscitans Linton, 1910 ; Podocotyle breviformis Manter, 1940 ; Apopodocotyle oscitans ( Linton, 1910) Pritchard, 1966 ; Pseudoplagioporus brevivitellus Siddiqi & Cable, 1960 .
Records. From the porkfish, Anisotremus virginicus (Linnaeus) (Haemulidae) , Haemulon sciurus and H. plumierii , off the Dry Tortugas, Florida, Gulf of Mexico, by Linton (1910). From an unidentified Anisotremus species, as P. breviformis , and from the burrito grunt, Anisotremus interruptus (Gill) , as H. oscitans , off the Galápagos by Manter (1940). From An. virginicus , the Caesar grunt, Haemulon carbonarium Poey , the smallmouth grunt, Haemulon chrysargyreum Günther [as Brachygenys chrysargyreus (Günther) ] and H. plumierii off the Dry Tortugas by Manter (1947). Three specimens from the sand tilefish, Malacanthus plumieri (Bloch) ( Perciformes : Malacanthidae ), off Puerto Rico by Siddiqi & Cable (1960). From the white margate, Haemulon album Cuvier , and the cottonwick grunt, Haemulon melanurum (Linnaeus) , off Curaçao and from An. virginicus , the tomtate grunt, Haemulon aurolineatum Cuvier [as Bathystoma aurolineatum (Cuvier) ], the black grunt, Haemulon bonariense Cuvier , H. sciurus , the western Atlantic seabream, Archosargus rhomboidalis (Linnaeus) (Sparidae) [as A. unimaculatus (Bloch) ], and the saucereye porgy, Calamus calamus (Valenciennes) (Sparidae) , off Jamaica by Nahhas & Cable (1964). From Ar. rhomboidalis and An. virginicus off Florida by Overstreet (1969). From the corocoro grunt, Orthopristis ruber (Cuvier) (Haemulidae) , off Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil by Amato (1983). From the French grunt, Haemulon flavolineatum (Desmarest) , off Puerto Rico by Dyer et al. (1985). From Cephalopholis fulva [as Epinephelus fulvus (Linnaeus) ] and H. chrysargyreum off Puerto Rico by Dyer et al. (1992). From H. sciurus off the Cayman Islands by Nahhas (1993).
Remarks. Pritchard (1966a) transferred this species to Apopodocotyle , but that genus was subsequently synonymised with Cainocreadium by Cribb (2005a). The genital pore is medial and so the combination of Cribb (2005a) is accepted for the present, but this species warrants further investigation because the vitelline follicles are restricted to the hindbody and it is known from haemulids and sparids. The excretory vesicle was not described.
