Comments and diagnosis. This species is herein transferred to Anthrenoides based on the following combination of
features: forewing with three submarginal cells, tentorial pit located at the intersection of outer antennal and epistomal sutures, mandible simple, metapostnotum pubescent ( Figs. 3 View FIGURES 1–4 , 7 View FIGURES5–8 ), mid tibial spur finely toothed, lateral fovea of T2 shallow, metasoma lacking yellow markings; males with S6 presenting a wide U-shaped emargination ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 9–14 ), S8 broad basally ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 9–14 ), and genitalia widely open basally ( Figs. 12–13 View FIGURES 9–14 ); females with subparallel inner orbits and hind femur lacking a longitudinal ridge on inner surface.
Anthrenoides nigrinasis n. comb. have the following list of diagnostic characteristics in both sexes: labral plate, mandible, and metasoma light brown or black; clypeus and supraclypeal area smooth and shiny between punctures; mesepisternum reticulate between punctures; basal area of metapostnotum slightly depressed, with fine transverse striae ( Figs. 3 View FIGURES 1–4 and 7 View FIGURES5–8 ); metapostnotum and propodeum glabrous medially, with dense and erect plumose hairs on lateral portions ( Figs. 3 View FIGURES 1–4 and 7 View FIGURES5–8 ); T1 finely and densely punctate on disc (≤1 pd), punctures gradually sparser toward marginal zone; ellipsoid lateral fovea of T2; no protuberances adjacent to ocelli or at the lower portion of gena; mesoscutum and scutellum mostly smooth and shiny between punctures ( Figs. 3 View FIGURES 1–4 and 7 View FIGURES5–8 ). In addition, the small yellow spot on the paraocular lobe in females ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES5–8 ) and pale yellow subantennal area and subparallel subantennal sutures in males ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–4 ) are features that characteristics that help to recognize the species among the other Anthrenoides from Argentina.
Redescription. Lectotype male. Approximate body length: 5.5 mm; maximum head width: 1.7 mm; intertegular distance: 1.0 mm; forewing length: 3.3 mm; maximum width of T2: 1.3 mm. Coloration. Head and mesosoma mostly black, following structures yellow: clypeus, lower paraocular area, subantennal area, anterior portion of fore tíbia, basal portion of mid and hind tibiae; mandible brown, black at apex; tegula translucent brown; proboscis, labrum, posterior portion of flagellum, basitibial plate, tarsi and metasoma light brown, marginal region of metasoma translucent, lateral fovea of T2 blackened ( Figs. 1–4 View FIGURES 1–4 ). Pubescence. Predominantly short, white, finely branched ( Figs. 1–4 View FIGURES 1–4 ). Head mostly covered in sparse, decumbent, and tiny hairs; few erect hairs around ocelli, paraocular area densely pilose near antennal socket; gena with dense and plumose hairs; pronotal collar, pronotal lobe, and metanotum with dense and erect plumose hairs; margins of mesoscutum with plumose hairs ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–4 ); disc of mesoscutum and scutellum with sparse erect pubescence ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–4 ); mesepisternum with dense and erect plumose hairs; metepisternum with minute and decumbent hair; metapostnotum and propodeum glabrous medially, with dense and erect plumose hairs on lateral portions; hind tibia and basitibial plate with sparse and minute hairs; metasomal terga with minute hairs, gradually longer toward marginal zone, more densely distributed along lateral portions of metasoma ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 9–14 ); T7 densely pilose, hairs directed towards middle, with middle transversal line glabrous; sparse hairs along marginal line of metasomal sterna ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1–4 ).
Integumental surface. Predominantly smooth and shiny between punctures ( Figs. 1–4 View FIGURES 1–4 ). Labral plate smooth; clypeus, subantennal area, lower paraocular area, and supraclypeal area sparsely punctate (>2 pd); frons densely punctate (≤1 pd); portion around ocelli finely reticulate between punctures; vertex smooth with sparse micropunctures between punctures; genal area densely punctate (≤1 pd), smooth between punctures; pronotal collar and metanotum densely punctate (≤0.5 pd); mesoscutum and scutellum sparsely punctate (>4 pd) ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–4 ); mesepisternum densely punctate (≤1.5 pd), reticulate between punctures; basal area of metapostnotum slightly depressed, with fine transverse striae ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–4 ); propodeum reticulate with dense punctures on lateral portions; metasomal terga finely and densely punctate on disc (≤1 pd), punctures gradually sparser toward marginal zone ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–4 ); metasomal sterna feebly reticulate between punctures ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1–4 ). Structure. Head 1.3x wider than long (head width: 1.7 mm; head length: 1.3 mm); first labial palpomere shorter than the three distal palpomeres combined, second slightly shorter than the first and two distal palpomeres shorter than second; labral plate 1.5x wider than long (labrum width: 0.3 mm; labrum length: 0.2 mm); compound eye 1.7x as long as wide (eye length: 0.9 mm; eye width: 0.54 mm), inner orbits slightly convergent below; clypeus 2.5x wider than long (clypeus width: 1.0 mm; clypeus length: 0.4 mm); subantennal sutures subparallel; frontal line distinctly grooved; gena, in lateral view, narrower than compound eye; mid- and hind tibial spurs finely serrate, straight apically; hind tibial spurs subequal in length; posterior margin of hind tibia toothed; tarsal claws bifid, teeth of similar sizes; lateral foveae of T2 wide and shallow ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–4 ); marginal zone depressed in comparison to disc; S6 with wide U-shaped emargination ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 9–14 ); genitalia and associated sterna as illustrated in figures 9–14.
Description. Female (from Tucumán, Argentina, AMNH). Approximate body length: 5.7 mm; maximum head width: 1.7 mm; intertegular distance: 1.2 mm; forewing length: 3.5 mm; maximum width of T2: 1.5 mm. Similar to male in pubescence and integumental surface. Coloration. Integument black, with small yellow spots on paraocular lobe and basal portion of fore and mid tibiae; mandible, labrum, flagellum, tegula, distitarsi and apex of metasoma brown; marginal zone of metasomal terga translucent light brown. Pubescence. Gena with sparse and long hairs; mesosoma with pale yellow pilosity dorsally; lateral portion of mesepisternum with short and sparse branched hairs; ventral portion of mesepisternum without curved hairs apically; scopa with long, sparse and simple setae ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES5–8 ); hind basitarsus with long and sparse setae, slightly shorter in length than tibia; pygidial fimbria with dense, long, branched, and yellow hairs ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES5–8 ). Integumental surface. Vertex and mesepisternum reticulate between punctures; metasomal sterna densely pilose on distal half, with long and branched hairs. Structure. Head 1.3x wider than long (head width: 1.7 mm; head length: 1.3 mm); first labial palpomere shorter than the three distal palpomeres combined, second slightly smaller than the first and two distal palpomeres smaller; labral plate 1.2x wider than long (labrum width: 0.34 mm; labrum length: 0.28 mm); compound eye 1.8x as long as wide (eye length: 0.9 mm; eye width: 0.5 mm), inner orbits subparallel; clypeus 1.7x wider than long (clypeus width: 0.7 mm; clypeus length: 0.4 mm); subantennal sutures subparallel; frontal line grooved; gena, in lateral view, narrower than compound eyes; posterior margin of hind tibia untoothed; mid and hind tibial spurs finely serrate, acute at apex; hind tibial spurs subequal in length; tarsal claws bifid, teeth with similar sizes; lateral foveae of T2 wide and shallow ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–4 ); marginal zone depressed in comparison to disc; pygidial plate V-shaped, distinctly acute at apex.
Variation. The paraocular lobe of some females is black. The supraclypeal area of some males is yellow near to clypeus. Labral plate, mandible and metasoma are black in some males from Mendoza and Rio Negro ( Argentina), similar to females. Males from El Cadillal, Tucumán ( Argentina) have the general coloration of the body lighter, with yellow flagellomeres and light brown legs.
Distribution. Argentina (La Rioja, Mendoza, Rio Negro, Santiago del Estero, and Tucumán).
Floral records. Heliotropium L. ( Boraginaceae ).
Type material examined. Lectotype male ( MNHP) from ARGENTINA: Santiago del Estero: ‘Museum Paris\ Chaco del Santiago del Estero \ Bords du Rio Salado\ env. D’Icaño\ E.-R. Wagner 1904’,‘Holotype’ [red label], ‘ Psaenythia \ nigrinasis \ Vachal’.
