Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 1 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 14); a video of a specimen taken off southern New Hanover , at 4–51 m depth, St. KR 110, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Eastern Indonesia east to Caroline and Tuamotu islands, north to Philippines, south to New Caledonia. Found in lagoons and on seaward reef slopes, commensal with sea anemones, 1–30 m depth. Marine.
