Allantus fulvipennis Mocsáry, 1909
A junior subjective synonym of Tenthredo megacephala Cameron, 1899 . Synonymy by Malaise (1945).
TYPES. Allantus fulvipennis Mocsáry, 1909: 28 . Syntypes Ƥ, “Insulae Batjan et Formosa (Kosempo)”. Lectotype Ƥ, hereby designated ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 14 – 16. 14 ). Type locality: “Batjan”.
DISCUSSION. Malaise (1945: 203) noted: “Batjan Island is given as type locality for Allantus fulvipennis Mocs. and A. testaceus Mocs. = T. khasiana Cam. Both species are known from the Khasi Hills in Assam, and their occurance in the Moluccas is most doubtful, and the statement needs confirmation as it probably, is based on a confusion of labels”. Furthermore, Malaise treated fulvipennis as a synonym of megacephala and “p.p.” of T. poeciloptera Enslin, 1911 . The specimen from Taiwan (Kosempo) could not be found in the HNHM. It is not clear from Malaise’s statement if he had seen this specimen or if he simply assumed the synonymy because of the locality. Allantus fulvipennis is an older name than poeciloptera and could become the valid name for poeciloptera . To avoid this change, the damaged specimen of fulvipennis with the doubtful locality “Batjan” is hereby selected as lectotype ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 14 – 16. 14 ). See also under Allantus elegans .
