Remarks

The colour photograph of A. taiwana Chûjô, 1952 , deposited in TARI, is available on line at http://timdm.tari.gov.tw/aic/detail.php?metadata=1&sid=24192348&genus= Aetheomorpha &species=taiwana&speauthor=. It is a syntype labelled: Taiwan, Kurau, 28 March 1935, leg. M. Chujo.

The colour photographs of holotype of A. bowditchi Gressitt and Kimoto, 1961 and its labels, deposited in MCZ, are available on line at http://insects.oeb.harvard. edu/mcz/FMPro?-db=species.fm&-format=species%5fcard%5ffull.htm&-lay=web&- sortfield=order&Genus=aetheomorpha&-max=10&-recid=12604331&-find=.

The holotype of A. bowditchi Gressitt and Kimoto bears the following labels: Yunnan, Museum of Comparative Zoology, D 152, MCZ Type 35485, Holotype, Aetheomorpha bowditchi Gressitt & Kimoto.

Based on the colour photographs and the original description of A. taiwana Chûjô , we can recognize this species by the following characters: pronotum has a sub-rhombic spot, elytron has a black lateral stripe and three black bands with the second one interrupted in the middle. We examined a paratype of A. bowditchi Gressitt and Kimoto and found the pronotum with a broad median stripe from anterior margin to basal margin and the elytron with three broad blackish bands and a black stripe laterally.

Kimoto (1974) treated A. bowditchi Gressitt and Kimoto as a synonym of A. taiwana Chûjô. As a result of different markings on pronotum and different bands on elytron, these two species differs from each other. However, without an opportunity to examine the holotypes of these two species, we leave the problem open for future study.

Kimoto (1974) mentioned in the citation of A. taiwana Chûjô that the original name was Cyaniris taiwana Chûjô, 1934 . But this is not correct: A. taiwana is the original form and was described firstly by Chûjô (1952).
