Adorodocia hirsuta Frolov & Montreuil View in CoL , new species ( Figs. 1– 3 View FIGURES 1–4 )
Type material. Holotype, male, labeled: “ Madagascar Centre, Massif de l’Ankaratra, Manjakatompo / Forêt d’Ambahona , Alt. 1850m, P. Viette, Chasse n°62 du 28.11.1951 / Muséum Paris, Mission P. Viette Sept. 1951 – Mars 1952 / Adorodocia hirsuta n. sp. Frolov & Montreuil det. 2018 / Holotype ” (Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle, Paris). Paratype no. 1, male, labeled: “ Ankaratra, Manjakatompo / 1.52 Rakotovao / Institut Scientifique Madagascar ” ( Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle, Paris ).
Description. Male, holotype ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–4 ). Body length 16.5 mm. Yellowish brown, elytra lighter, pronotum with complete, longitudinal light brown strip on each side and basal, short light brown mark more medially.
Head. Clypeus flat, its regularly raised front margin semicircular. Punctures large and rather sparse, bearing short, adpressed setae. Frons flat, without any relief. Punctures large and sparse, bearing short and adpressed setae. Only one yellowish, long and raised seta near inner edge of each eye. Labrum with medial prominent truncated process. Antennal club elongated, much longer than funiculus but shorter than funiculus and scape combined.
Thorax. Pronotal margins thick, especially lateral ones bearing a few long setae in their anterior part. Lateral borders regularly curved, anterolateral angles almost right, posterolateral angles obtuse. Basal margin prominent in middle. Punctation large and sparse, bearing short and adpressed setae similar to those on head. Prosternal apophyse strong between posterior edge of procoxae, its anterior edge forming a spine-shaped prominence.
Scutellum . Smooth at base, with dense large punctures at apex and along sides, bearing short and adpressed setae similar to those on head and pronotum.
Elytra. Striae indistinguishable. Elytra with slightly raised, narrow stripes (“odd interstriae”), much narrower than flat “even interstriae”, however this sculpture is poorly defined. Punctation much denser than that on pronotum and head, punctures evenly distributed, bearing short, adpressed setae, a little longer and thick, scale-like setae near apex. Sides with a continuous row of numerous long setae being shorter near apex.
8th tergite. Strongly convex. Surface with rough aspect due to microreticulate tegument and superficial, dense, more or less coalescent punctures. Short adpressed setae present only basally, in apical part and on sides; disc glabrous. A few long, flexuous, raised setae in middle of apical part and a row along middle of posterior margin.
Ventral side. Metasternum completely covered by yellowish, long, flexuous setae ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–4 ). Sternites with a mix of regularly distributed white, short and adpressed setae and a transversal row of yellowish, long, raised setae.
Legs. Protibiae tridentate, the basal tooth slightly marked.
Aedeagus. Aedeagus of typical shape for Adorodocia with partly fused parameres ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–4 ).
Variability. Paratype differs from the holotype by its slightly smaller size (body length 16.0 mm).
Female. Female unknown.
Etymology. Species named in reference to its long setae on metasternum.
Differential diagnosis. Adorodocia hirsuta , new species presents several characters which make it unique within the genus Adorodocia : metasternum completely covered by long and raised setae, while other species of the genus bear shorter and adpressed setae only on the sides and have the central part appearing almost glabrous; body obviously more slender (rate body length/body width 2.2), while other species are wider (rate body length/body width approximately 1.8); elytra only covered by sparse, evenly distributed short adpressed setae and apical hump of elytra without any particular setae, while the other species bear obvious scale-like setae and a few long and strong, yellowish setae both on apical elytral hump and on elytral disc; 8th tergite with reduced setae, while other species bear a mix of very long and thick, yellowish raised setae and white, scale-like adpressed setae. The parameres of A. hirsuta , new species are most similar to those of A. recta Montreuil & Frolov, 2014 , but differ in more curved apices in lateral view ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–4 ).
Distribution. The new species is only known from an isolated forest in Ankaratra area ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1–4 ).
