Type species. Linckia laevigata ( Linnaeus, 1758) View in CoL ( type by original designation).

Remarks. The genus Linckia is composed of nine species, only three of these are recorded for the Atlantic Ocean: L. bouvieri Perrier, 1875 , L. guildingi and L. nodosa Perrier, 1875 , the last two have been recorded in Brazil.
