Lathrobium shengtangshanense Peng and Li View in CoL , new species
( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 D, 5)
Type material. (9 3, 5 ƤƤ). HOLOTYPE: 3, labelled ‘ CHINA: GUANGXI Prov. / Jinxiu County / Shengtangshan Mt. / 26.vii.2011, alt. 1,650–1,800 m / Jia-Yao Hu leg.’. PARATYPES: 7 3, 5 ƤƤ, same label data as holotype; 1 3, same, but ‘alt. 1,900 m / Zhong Peng leg.’.
Description. Measurements and ratios: BL 8.35–9.34, HL 1.18–1.24, HW 1.28–1.35, PL 1.67–1.74, PW 1.35–1.41, EL 1.05–1.17, HL/HW 0.91–0.92, HW/PW 0.95–0.97, HL/PL 0.71–0.74, PW/PL 0.80–0.82, EL/PL 0.63–0.67.
Habitus as in Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 D. Externally similar to L. dayaoshanense , except for the lighter average coloration, the somewhat smaller body size, the nearly parallel-sided pronotum and the narrower impunctate midline on the pronotum.
Male. Sternite VII ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 D) with short modified setae surrounding subtriangular medioapical impression, and with apical margin deeply concave; sternite VIII ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 E) with weak emargination and broad impression along middle, on either side of this impression with modified setae; sternite IX ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 F) asymmetric; aedeagus as in Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 G–5J.
Female. Apical margin of tergite VIII ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 A) angulate at middle; sternite VIII ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 B) distinctly oblong, much longer than that of male and distinctly produced apically; tergite IX ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 C) narrowly separated basally; tergite X elliptical, reaching basal margin of tergite IX.
Remarks. The new species is close to L. guizhouensis Chen, Li & Zhao, 2005 from Guizhou with which it shares the similar habitus ( Chen, Li & Zhao, 2005: 599, Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ) and the male sternite VIII ( Chen, Li & Zhao, 2005: 599, Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ). But the new species can be readily distinguished by the front part of the aedeagus studded with dense tubercles. In L. guizhouensis , the aedeagus ( Chen, Li & Zhao, 2005: 599, Fig. 3–5 View FIGURE 3 View FIGURE 4 View FIGURE 5 ) is slender and lacks tubercles.
Distribution. South China (Guangxi: Shengtangshan Mountain).
Habitat. The adults were collected from the leaf litter of the forest floor by sifting.
Etymology. The species is named after its type locality.
