Indonesia records: Between Nusa Besi and Timor Islands (Timor Sea) ( Hansen 1910), western part of Sumatra Island (Indian Ocean) ( Illig 1930), Strait of Malacca and southern part of Java Island (Indian Ocean) ( Pillai 1973). Depth range: Plankton net 27–54 m, up to the sea surface ( Hansen 1910) and closing vertical net at 120– 85 m ( Illig 1930).

Global distribution: This species is distributed in the Indian Ocean ( Illig 1906, 1930; Pillai 1965, 1973), Bay of Bengal ( Biju & Panampunnayil 2011; Biju et al. 2014), Suez Canal (W.M. Tattersall 1927), Tanzania ( Nouvel 1944), Strait of Malacca (O.S. Tattersall 1965), Japan ( Valbonesi & Murano 1980; Murano 1990; Fukuoka & Murano 1997), Micronesia ( Murano 1983), South China Sea ( Wang & Liu 1987), Palau Island ( Hanamura & De Grave 2004) and Malaysia ( Tan & Azman 2018).
