Diagnosis. Males can be recognized by the unmodified arista-like stylus ( Fig. 107 View FIGURES 104–119 ), infuscated metepimeron, and form of the mid tarsus ( Fig. 125 View FIGURES 120–131 ). This species is related to C. desertus and C. sobrinus (see diagnosis for C. desertus ).
Redescription. Male. Wing length 2.9–3.2 mm. Similar to C. desertus except as noted: Head: Arista-like stylus ( Fig. 107 View FIGURES 104–119 ) unmodified, slender, evenly tapered to point, with very short microtrichia (often appearing bare). Legs: Midleg: Tarsomere 2 1.5X longer than combined length of tarsomeres 3–4. Tarsomere 5 slender, distinctly longer than combined length of tarsomeres 3–4 ( Fig. 125 View FIGURES 120–131 ).
Female. Wing length 2.8–3.2 mm. Similar to C. desertus except arista-like stylus with apex sharply pointed, not blunted.
Distribution and seasonal occurrence. Known from Arizona, New Mexico and Utah ( Fig. 145 View FIGURES 144–146 ). Adults have been collected from April to October.
