Diagnosis. Prothyma (Genoprothyma) hopkinsi bakeri can be distinguished from the nominate subspecies by: 1, the bright bluish-green color of head, pronotum and elytral shoulders.
Description. Size: TL (without labrum) 11.0– 12.9 mm (mean = 11.9 mm, n = 18).
Head: Color shining black; with blue green or blue violet reflections on orbital plates, near pronotum, and basal part of genae; with blue violet reflections on apical half of genae; with blue-violet reflections on vertex and clypeus; surface glabrous, with two setigerous punctures next to eye, one along frontal margin and one dorsally at center; strong longitudinal striae on orbital plates and vertex; strong transversal striae behind the eyes, on neck and frons; striae becoming obsolete on genae, frons, and clypeus. Head as wide as elytra (mean EW/HW = 1.0). Labrum bicolored, ochre-testaceous, margins brownish, small black area basomedially. Labrum of male ( Fig. 9b View FIGURE 9 ) wider than long (mean LW/LL = 1.5); with four setae located near the margin, two lateral and two apical; with two blunt anterolateral teeth and two outward directed thorn-like anterior teeth at the anteromedian lobe. Labrum of female ( Fig. 9c View FIGURE 9 ) slightly wider than long (mean LW/LL = 1.2), with four setae located near the margin, two lateral and two apical; with two blunt anterolateral teeth and two outward directed thorn-like anterior teeth at the anteromedian lobe, intermediate space with a large triangular tooth. Mandibles brownish, with four teeth, darkened on margins, small area of base ochre-testaceous. Labial and maxillary palpi testaceous, the last segment shiny black. Antennae slender, reaching posteriorly to the middle of the elytra in males, shorter in females; scape bicolored, ochre-testaceous dorsally, black at venter, in some specimens completely ochre-testaceous; antennomeres two, three and four black with metallic luster, with ochre-testaceous part at the apex or wholly pale in some specimens; scape with one apical seta, the following three antennomeres almost glabrous; antennomeres five to eleven black, dull, finely, and evenly pubescent.
Thorax: Pronotum as long as wide (mean PW/PL = 1.0); sides slightly rounded between the transversal constrictions; glabrous, with shallow transverse striae on disc; shiny black with blue green to blue violet reflections dorsally; transversal constrictions with blue-green reflections; margins bluish; sternae and episternae glabrous, shiny black; mesepisternum of females with rounded pit above the center.
Elytra: ( Fig. 9d–f View FIGURE 9 ) more than twice as long as wide (mean EL/EW = 2.2), parallel-sided, with a flattened basal hump, slightly bulged at the lateral margin in basal and apical half; dorsal surface shining black, in some specimens a little lighter at apex, with coppery-red reflections on the disc besides the suture, blue-green reflections at the humeral part; elytral testaceous maculation consists of a humeral dot, small or absent in some female specimens, a lateromedial dot in the form of an oblique backwards band, narrowing towards the tip in some specimens, and a transverse preapical dot; surface with dense and evenly spaced punctures, shallower towards the apex, becoming confluent and forming grooves near the suture; these grooves covers about the apical third of the elytra, not reaching the tip of the lateromedial spot, shallow in some specimens; apical margin distinctly rounded and slightly restricted towards middle suture, with a tiny sutural spine. Epipleurae black.
Ventral aspect: Venter glabrous, blackish blue violet; trochanter glabrous, coxa, femur, tibia, and tarsi setose; trochanter, coxa, basal half and in some specimens apical part of femur testaceous, remainder of legs brownish black, tibia with metallic luster.
Aedeagus: ( Fig. 10i–l View FIGURE 10 ) in lateral view, slender in the basal third, then voluminously expanded to rapidly tapering again towards the apex, extending to a relatively short and blunt point (total length 3.1 mm).
Distribution. LUZON— Catanduanes; Quezon: Atimonan, Tayabas.
