CAMPTOPTEROIDES Viggiani, 1974 View in CoL

( Figs 62–67)

Camptopteroides Viggiani, 1974: 3 View in CoL . Type species: Camptopteroides armata Viggiani, 1974 View in CoL , by original designation. See Huber et al. (2020) for generic synonyms and their type species.

Diagnosis. Funicle 7-segmented with fu 2 ring-like, much shorter than fu 1 or fu 3 and sometimes almost fused to fu 3 ( Fig.63); clava as long as scape, longer than funicle + pedicel; mandible with 2 teeth ( Fig. 62a); head posteriorly with median vertical coronal sulcus extending from vertexal suture to meet transoccipital sulcus and transoccipital sulcus short, extending from dorsal to foramen laterally towards ventral margin of eye ( Fig. 62b); head and, especially, frenum, metanotum and propodeum with distinct reticulate sculpture ( Figs 62, 65, 66); fore wing usually with transverse brown bands separated subapically by a small hyaline area ( Fig. 64); petiole ring-like, much shorter than wide ( Fig. 65), barely or not visible in lateral view ( Figs 66, 67).

Remarks. Camptopteroides belongs to the Camptoptera group of genera. It is the only genus in the group with distinctly patterned wings and includes the largest species among any in the Camptoptera group of genera.

Neotropical hosts. Unknown.

Distribution. No named species in the Neotropical region. Luft Albarracin et al. (2014) recorded the genus from Argentina. Specimens examined are from about 10 other countries in Central and South America and the Caribbean islands (CNC, UCRC).
