Notophyllum caecum Fauvel, 1913
Notophyllum caecum Fauvel, 1913: 52–53 , gure 9; 1914: 116–118, pl. 5, gures 14–20.
Material examined. Several mounted parapodia from two syntypes on two slides ( UCO IRFA —I. 78/78¾), Azores, 5005 m .
Remarks. The two slides examined contain four and ve parapodia, respectively, from what may be two syntypes (Fauvel’s original specimens), and represent all material available. The lanceolate shape of the dorsal and ventral cirri is unusual for Notophyllum , although dorsal acicula and one or two dorsal capillary chaetae can be observed; the latter characters, however, also occur in Austrophyllum . According to the original description there are no nuchal lobes. We do not believe that N. caecum is part of Notophyllum . We have insu cient information to specify any closer a nity, and refer to it as Notophyllinae incertae sedis.
