Distribution. Western Atlantic—North Caroline, Florida, Gulf of Mexico, Antilles, and Brazil (from Maranhão to Rio de Janeiro). Eastern Pacific—Gulf of California, and Panama ( Melo 1996).

Ecological notes. From shallow waters to 90 m. Found on rocky bottoms and corals, and on sand bottoms, shells, algae, and bryozoans ( Melo 1996).
