Basionym: Couepia longipendula Pilger (1914: 141) . Lectotype (designated by Prance 1972a: 248):— BRAZIL. Amazonas: Manaus, Bosossa, September 1908, Ule 8854 ( K!; isolectotypes G! L!, LA, MG!; holotype B destroyed).
Distribution and habitat: — Brazil (Amazonas and Pará). In terra firme forest from 50– 400 m.
Conservation status: —This species is assessed here as least concern, LC ( IUCN 2001). It is widely distributed throughout the Brazilian Amazon region, and there are a substantial number of known individuals; it regenerates well and is also extensively cultivated.
