Type Locality: Surinam.
Vernacular Names: Spectral Bat.
Synonyms: Vampyrum guianensis Lacépède 1789 ; Vampyrum maximus E. Geoffroy 1806 ; Vampyrum nasutus Shaw 1800 ; Vampyrum nelsoni Goldman 1917 .
Distribution: Veracruz ( Mexico) to Ecuador and Peru, Bolivia, N and SW Brazil, and Guianas; Trinidad; perhaps Jamaica.
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (nt).
